Fr. Marc Book Study

August 2024

Fr. Marc is recording an audiobook of The Emptiness of Our Hands by Phyllis Cole-Dai. It is about her living 50 days (starting in Lent) on the streets of Ohio to be present to the homeless. 

Occasionally, recordings will be complemented by music or sound effects to help bring you deeper into the story. 

It is the hope that this book will be the next focus of our growing dual-parish book study.

Chapter Two

Questions:

• Why were Phyliss and James put off by Born-again Pete's behavior toward them, do you think?
• How would you "coach" Pete to offer his same "message" and help, but in a way you think would have been better received by our duo?

 
Prayer Experiment: 

Perhaps with a partner, plan how you would approach a homeless person begging for food or money in a way that avoids Born-again Pete's missteps and lives our your faithful call to give of yourself for others benefit as Christ did for ours. Now, actually act out your plan this week and discuss with your partner the ​outcome and how the interaction felt for you as one living out their faith in service to the poor.
