The Chuch: A Community of Communities
Every parish consists of families and households. Parishes in a certain geographic area, such as Western Washington comprise a diocese. Western Washington is actually an Archdiocese because the Bishop is an Archbishop who serves as the chair when local Bishops meet to discuss Church issues. The dioceses and Archdioceses of the world who are in union with one another and the Pope constitute the Universal Church.
Every year Archbishop Etienne asks the Catholics of the Seattle Archdiocese to make a financial commitment to support the Central Offices of the Archdiocese which coordinates the ministry and infrastructure of the 172 parishes and missions and the 74 schools in Western Washington.
