The Burning Bush

Dear Friend,

Welcome to this presentation of the Catholic Religion.

The home page illustrates Moses kneeling before God who is calling to him from the Burning Bush. This reminds us that our relationship with God is based first on a relationship with "The One Who Saves Us" rather than on teachings or ideas.

The navigation buttons at the bottom of the page will take you through a sequential approach or you may explore topics as you wish

One approach would be to answer the Focus Questions, then go through the catechism, in sequential fashion and then re-answer the Focus Questions. The information in this and other catechisms is useful in a number of ways. Even more important, however, is coming to understand the Biblical stories. They reveal to us how God interacts with people. Since God always acts in the same way, one's understanding of the Biblical stories reveals how God is acting in the life of an individual or community.

The Catechism's Approach:

The word Religion means to bind or link. So one's religion is meant to help a person grow in his or her relationship with God and so grow in one's relationship to neighbor and indeed all of creation.
To be a Christian, Jew, Muslim, Buddhist or Hindu is to embrace a certain way of SEEING, CELEBRATING, and LIVING LIFE. The members of different religions agree on many issues. For instance, each of the above named religions will teach its members to observe the "Golden Rule", i.e., "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." But there are also significant differences among the various Religions, e.g., in how they teach their members to focus their love and deal with their suffering.
I am a Christian because I believe that Jesus Christ, once crucified but now risen, is the one who most completely reveals to people what God is like and at the same time teaches them how to respond to God's love by living life to the full as a human person. I am a Catholic because I believe that the Catholic Religion is the one that best enables a person to enter fully into a relationship with the Risen Christ. I present here, in summary fashion, the basic teachings of the Catholic Religion. I do so in a way that seems to have resonated with those wanting to learn more about the Catholic Religion or review basic Church teachings. This presentation consists of several sections.
